New Delhi: Till now you provided passcodes, fingerprints, and retina scans as a way of unlocking devices. Now, Amazon wants to make use of your ear to help you unlock a smartphone.
The e-commerce giant has patented a system that recognizes the shape of your ear and unlocks your smartphone when you raise the device up near your face to answer a call.
Similar to fingerprints, the human ear is also said to be as unique an identifier. With this system, you would not be required to manually put in a passcode or provide finger impression, The Next Web notes.
Along with unlocking the handset, the purported system could also be used to dynamically adjust speaker volume by determining the distance between the phone and the user’s ear. We might be able to see this purported ear-authentication system in Amazon’s next generation of Fire phones.
