Meet Indian-Origin UmaSofia Srivastava, Who Gave Up Her Miss Teen USA Title
Known for her multilingual children's book, The White Jaguar, UmaSofia Srivastava revealed she would now focus on her studies and complete her high school education.

Miss Teen USA 2023, UmaSofia Srivastava, recently made the surprising decision to step down from her title, just eight months after her historic win. She made the announcement after Miss USA 2023, Noelia Voigt, also resigned from her position just two days prior. Taking to Instagram, the New Jersey teen shared her reasons for surrendering her crown and claimed that her “personal values no longer fully align with the direction of the organisation.” Known for her multilingual children’s book, The White Jaguar, Srivastava revealed she would now focus on her studies and complete her high school education. Who is UmaSofia Srivastava?

Born on June 5, 2007, in New Jersey, USA, Srivastava made history by becoming the first Mexican-Indian American to represent her city at the national level. She was crowned Miss New Jersey Teen USA in 2023 and in the same year, Srivastava also emerged as the winner of Miss Teen USA, becoming the second consecutive Indian origin winner. Passionate about making a difference in society, the 17-year-old wishes to become a UN ambassador, for which she has already begun her preparation.

While at school, she teamed up with the Lotus Petal Foundation, where she helps underprivileged children in India with education, nutrition and healthcare. Srivastava also co-founded the Diversity and Inclusion campaign, while engaging in activities like Model UN and Mock Trials. Apart from Lotus Petal, Srivastava is also an ambassador of NGOs like, uEmpower and Smile Train.

UmaSofia Srivastava is fluent in English, Spanish, Hindi and French, which inspired her to write the multilingual children’s book, The White Jaguar. Additionally, the teen also manages her blog That’s Fan Behaviour, where she shares her experiences as a woman of colour and discusses current events.

Other than her humanitarian work, Srivastava also plays the piano. Currently, she studies in Class 11 while being a member of the National Honour Society and she is gearing up to start her college application process. Srivastava also believes in philanthropy, as she generously donated 1000 books to children in need in New Jersey through the Bridge of Books Foundation.
