A video of an elderly woman yelling at an influencer in Bengaluru has sparked a discussion on social media.

A video posted by an Instagram influencer, showing an elderly woman publicly scolding her for wearing shorts in Bengaluru, has ignited a heated debate on social media. In the clip, the elderly woman can be heard yelling in her native language, sparking widespread reactions. While many criticised the elderly woman for shaming the influencer, some viewers sided with her. Yoga instructor Tanny Bhattacharjee, who shared the video, captioned it with the question, “What do you think is the problem? I don’t know what’s happening.”

The video captures an elderly woman in saree screaming in her native language. A text insert with the words “Woman against woman,” appears on the screen. It also queries the woman’s attitude with the words “Shorts not allowed in Bengaluru?” and criticises society for being a dictating force on women.

On Instagram, Tanny Bhattacharjee has over 1.2 lakh followers. The video has prompted a heated debate, with some denouncing the old woman’s actions and others supporting her stance.

Shared on September 8, the video has received over 1.9 million views, and the numbers are rapidly climbing. People have responded with a variety of comments after seeing the post.

A user wrote, “Shorts have nothing to do with society. It’s your mentality. Btw, why is aunty wearing a saree with a crop top showing her stomach.”

Another commented, “Bengaluru is going backwards.”

“Short skirts are never the problem, cheap people with a cheap mentality who objectify, humiliate and blame women for their choices that’s the real issue,” said a user.

There were many who supported the old woman, while others advised the yoga instructor to disregard her. Some said that it was just for the sake of making a reel.

Meanwhile, Bhattacharjee responded to these statements, saying, “I completely agree with ignoring her, and we did ignore her and began heading towards the parking lot. Then she started following us, shouting in public, and stopping other cars to show me in my shorts (legs) to other men. Just so you know, I was not creating any stuff there. I (sic) was on my way back to the car, and she kept doing this because I was wearing shorts?”
