'Traumatised': Internet Reacts To Video Of Woman Dislocating Her Shoulder Before Sleeping
An Instagram influencer revealed that she deliberately dislocates her shoulder before going to sleep as she suffers from Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS).

An Instagram influencer’s recent revelation has left the internet shocked after she shared an unusual bedtime routine influenced by a rare medical condition. Tia Wilson revealed in a video that she deliberately dislocates her shoulder before going to sleep as she suffers from Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS). This genetic disorder affects the body’s connective tissues causing Wilson’s joints to be overly flexible and prone to dislocation.

In the footage, Wilson explains how her therapist after knowing that she dislocates her shoulder before sleeping advised her to discontinue the practise. She explains that the routine helps her alleviate discomfort she faces due to her medical condition. She allows her shoulder to temporarily fall out of its socket which eases pressure on her nerves and gives her muscles “a break.”

Wilson, who has been practicing this since childhood, demonstrates in the video, showing how she intentionally dislocates her shoulder and positions herself in such a way that her head puts pressure on the joint. She explains that this activity helps mitigate the pain associated with EDS and allows her muscles to relax overnight. In the morning, she gently puts her shoulder back into place.

Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) is a group of disorders that affect the connective tissues supporting the skin, bones, tendons, ligaments, blood vessels and internal organs. Symptoms include joints that are overly flexible joints and skin that is translucent, elastic and bruises easily.

The accompanying caption with the video read, “I’m working on it?! Chronic illness people can relate to having to choose the lesser of two evils: bum shoulder or not sleeping at all?”

Wilson’s revelation caused quite a stir online, racking up over 1.9 million views and sparking a flurry of reactions from the users.

In the comment section, one user expressed, “I was rooting for you until you traumatised me.”

Another humourously commented, “Girl i was about to cuss out your physical therapist before you DISLOCATED YOUR SHOULDER?????”

A person remarked, “I am a physical therapist and I kept my phone down and left my room,” while another in disbelief wrote, “My jaw is still down.”

While many were shocked by Wilson’s unconventional sleeping habit, others resonated with her experience. One user shared, “I used to sleep like that too. I had to learn to sleep on my back because I also have ehlers danlos and my ribs started slipping out of place when I was on my side.”

Another wrote, “Nah, I totally get this. I can partially dislocate my shoulders. It’s totally painless, sometimes I want my arm up when I’m sleeping and it’s just more comfortable to have it dislocated because there’s less pressure in the joint.”

What's your reaction?
