A high-voltage drama unfolded in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur on Wednesday when a woman climbed atop an electric pole after her husband found out about her extramarital affair. A video footage of the incident that took place in Gorakhpur’s Pipraich, went viral on the internet.
The 34-year-old woman is married to Ram Govind, who works as a labourer. The couple has three children. She had allegedly been in a relationship with another man from a neighbouring village for seven years behind her husband’s back. Ram Govid, however, found out about the affair on Wednesday and started an argument with his wife.
The woman demanded that her affair partner be accommodated in her household and help with the finances of the house. Ram Govind protested the idea and stormed out of the house, following which, his wife climbed up an electric pole bound by high-tension wires as a crowd watched in horror.

The woman paid no heed to onlookers’ requests to come down and remain perched on the pole adamant about her demands.
Local authorities swiftly intervened and neutralised the crisis by dispatching teams from the police as well as the electricity department. After the electricity supply to the area was cut off, the woman ultimately came down after hours of patient negotiation by the authorities.
Last year in November, a woman in Uttar Pradesh climbed a mobile tower demanding that her boyfriend marry her. The woman alleged that her boyfriend cheated on her and is refusing to commit to his promise to marry her. The incident took place near Semra Raja Toll Plaza in the Bhitauli police station area in UP’s Maharajganj district.
