The long-anticipated construction of a synthetic track and spectator gallery at Madan Mohan Malaviya University of Technology (MMMUT), Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) is nearing fruition. Approval for the project is expected during the upcoming meeting of the Finance Committee and Management Board. If the proposal receives green light, this highly awaited initiative will materialise with an estimated investment of around Rs 9 crore. The development of this synthetic track within the university’s sports complex will enhance the scope of sports activities, providing students with improved facilities and opportunities to excel in athletics.
Another significant advancement in the development of MMMUT is the proposed air-conditioned (AC) hostel, designed to accommodate 512 students, with an estimated cost of approximately Rs 46 crore. Preparations are underway for its construction, and the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is currently being drafted. Among the 12 existing hostels at the university, 11 are in a state of disrepair and require urgent attention.
During the upcoming meeting, plans will also be discussed for renovating these ageing facilities. Upgrading these older structures will ensure safer and more comfortable living conditions for students, enhancing their overall campus experience.
MMMUT has developed a unique incentive program, aimed at recognising students and faculty members, who excel in research and patent development. This initiative proposes awards of up to Rs 2 lakh for outstanding research contributions and innovative patents. Such a move is expected to significantly boost research activities and motivate students to engage more deeply in the realm of innovation. This proposal is also set to be discussed during the upcoming meeting; if approved, it will elevate the standards of research within the university, fostering a more dynamic and inventive academic environment.
The upcoming meeting will also focus on the proposed budget for the financial year 2025-26. Once approved, this budget will be forwarded to the government for consideration. In addition, a review of the current financial session’s budget will take place, along with discussions on potential amendments. Another significant proposal under consideration is the creation of 23 new assistant professor positions, 5 associate professor roles, and 4 professor posts, aimed at enhancing the student-teacher ratio. Presently, the university has a total of 177 sanctioned positions, and this proposal would further increase that number, ensuring better educational support for students.
Madan Mohan Malaviya University of Technology, Gorakhpur, was founded in 2013 by the Government of Uttar Pradesh. It was established as a non-affiliating, teaching, and research university following the reconstitution of the Madan Mohan Malaviya Engineering College, Gorakhpur, which had been in operation since 1962.
