R Madhavan and Dia Mirza’s Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein (RHTDM) is one of those films where the magic of romance refuses to fade with time. Released in 2001, the film may not have set the box office on fire, but its legacy has only grown stronger over the years. The love story between Maddy (Madhavan) and Reena (Dia) still feels as fresh as it did two decades ago.
As the film returns to theaters, packed with fans eager to relive the magic, to Madhavan, it’s clear that some love stories, like this one, are forever. In an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, he said, “The craziness and the involvement of the audiences in the theatres is something that is both baffling and, at the same time, so charming to see. People don’t mind that it’s not technologically up-to-date or that it’s 23-year-old content, which has been offered repeatedly on all TV channels, social media, and OTT platforms many times over. They are still coming to theaters for the community watching experience, paying good money to watch a love story that has resonated with them for 23 years.”
Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein songs, whether it’s the soul-stirring Zara Zara or the heart-wrenching Sach Keh Raha Hai Deewana, continue to be loved by fans, each one bringing back memories of love, longing and perhaps that bittersweet feeling of first love. Madhavan said he is overwhelmed that fans want to feel that same magic and fall in love with Maddy, Reena and the songs all over again. He added, “What is more incredible is that there are teenagers and kids who are barely in their teens are also coming to watch the film and singing along and preempting the dialogues during the shows in the theaters. I am truly baffled and don’t know what to make out of it. I’m too grateful and overwhelmed to be able to process it now.”
Meanwhile, on the work front, R Madhavan was last seen in Shaitaan alongside Ajay Devgn. The film received rave reviews from both fans and critics. Next up, he will star in Shankara and De De Pyaar De 2, alongside Ajay Devgn and Rakul Preet Singh.
