The Kerala High Court on Wednesday held that all the appointments and transfers made to the temples under the Travancore Devaswom Board, except clerical staff, should be done only with the approval of the court.
The Devaswom Bench took the decision as a plan for ensuring transparency in handling the temples such as Sabarimala, Pampa and Erumely.
The court observed that, as far as the selection of melsanthi and keezhshanthi is concerned, it has a supervisory role.
However, it is necessary that the transfers and postings of all officers should be carried out with the approval of the court. The court also asked the Devaswom Board to furnish the identity of the persons who have been transferred to Sabarimala in 2012.
The High Court further asked the Devaswom Board to file whether the Vigilance wing of the Board has played any role in assessment of the officers or in the identification of those to be sent to the Sabarimala Temple.
