NAMAKKAL: The State Federation of Lorry Owners Associations - Tamil Nadu (SFLOA) has announced that its members would suspend operations to Kerala on Wednesday extending support to political parties which are resorting to road blockade in border areas protesting against the Kerala government’s stand on the Mullaiperiyar issue. President of the SFLOA-TN, K Nallathampi, said that lorries from Tamil Nadu would not ferry goods to the neighbouring state through the inter-state routes, including Walayar and Pollachi in Coimbatore, Kaliakkavilai in Kanyakumari and Sengottai in Tirunelveli districts. The decision taken in the wake of attacks on lorry drivers from Tamil Nadu, he told reporters over phone from New Delhi.In Salem, The Tamil Nadu Lorry Booking Agents Association announced that bookings of goods bound for Kerala would be stopped from December 21. The state president of the association Raja Vadivel said that the decision would be in effect till the dam issue was settled. The Tamil Nadu Lorry Owners Association and lorry associations like the LPG and Petrol Tanker operators would also support the stir.Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry deplored attacks on commercial establishments owned by Keralites in Tamil Nadu. “We deplore attacks on commercial establishments owned by Keralites and have requested the police to provide them with adequate security,” S Rethinavelu, senior president of the chamber, told reporters here on Monday.
