KOCHI: Demolition of the second bay of the North overbridge re-scheduled for Monday seems to be mired with confusions between the district authorities and the metro rail officials. It has been over two weeks since the demolition of the second bay was to begin. However, the work has not started yet.  Metro Rail Project Director P Sriram said, “The first promise for the demolition of the bay given by the Collector was for Oct 8. It is being postponed for the past two weeks. We are yet to receive the sanction. The reason given by the district authorities now is the delay in regulating the traffic diversions.”The Railways, which should have more reasons to be concerned with the dismantling of the bay due to the presence of the railway track underneath the bridge, has already given their sanction. Sriram confirmed that the Railways came in early and signed all the papers two weeks ago. They are satisfied with the way the other bridge was dismantled without posing any danger to any one. “ Now, no body from the Railways has to provide us with the sanction.”  However, Collector Sheik Pareeth said, “We are waiting for the sanction from the Bangalore Railway Protection Authority which was supposed to come down today.” Also, the metro authorities are awaiting fthe approval from the Thiruvananthapuram division of the railways to block the electricity flow to the trains on the track, since, it could prove dangerous for the demolition work of the bridge.
