'The dignity of the transit home of the Karmapa should be maintained while conducting investigations'.

Dharamsala: The dignity and sanctity of the Gyuto Monastery should be maintained while conducting investigation into recovery of foreign currency worth over Rs 7.5 crore from the transit home of the Karmapa, Union Minister Virbhadra Singh today said.

He also demanded a strict probe in other benami land cases of Tibetans and a thorough investigation in the benami land deals by outsiders in the state.

Reacting to the Karmapa issue, Singh, who served the state as its Chief Minister, said during his term, he had favoured the regularisation of land with Tibetans, adding, that the policy framed by his government, was for those lands only on which the Tibetans were undertaking social welfare work.

Yesterday bank accounts of a Trust backed by Karmapa Ugyen Trinley Dorje and its trustees have been frozen in connection with the probe into the seizure of a huge amount of foreign currency from a transit home of the Tibetan spiritual leader last month.
