THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The various organisations of disabled persons have submitted a memorandum to Social Welfare Minister M K Muneer for a non-political appointment to the post of State Disability Commissioner. They have demanded that the person to be appointed to the post should be above politics, committed to the cause of the disabled and willing to spend time for their welfare activities.Stating that the State Disability Commissioner is responsible for the welfare of over 10 lakh disabled in the state, the organisations said that the new commissioner should be a person who will fight for the rights of the disabled. The organisations for the disabled, including the Kerala Federation of the Blind, Kerala Association for the Blind, Keraleeya Disabled Association, Human Rights Law Network and the Disabled Organisations Coordination Committee, demanded a transparent and quick appointment to the vacant post.
