New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate is likely to issue summons to senior officials of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee in connection with a case of alleged violation of foreign exchange regulations related to the Queen’s Baton Relay in London.
The ED is likely to question Games OC chief Suresh Kalmadi and other top brass including Secretary General Lalit Bhanot, Jt Director General TS Darbari, DG VK Verma and Vice Chairman Randhir Singh.
In August, the ED had questioned sacked CWG Organising Committee Joint Director General T S Darbari and suspended Deputy Director General Sanjay Mohindroo for several hours over alleged financial irregularities in connection with the mega event.
Darbari, a close aide of Kalmadi, and Mahindroo were summoned to explain certain financial transactions undertaken during the Queen's Baton Relay in
London last year. The ED has already registered a case under Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) in this regard.
In a separate development, the Delhi High Court has disposed of two petitions against Kalmadi alleging his involvement in corruption in the just-concluded Commonwealth Games.
The court said the government has already formed the V K Shunglu committee to look into alleged irregularities in the CWG. The lawyers who filed the petition have been asked to make a presentation before the committee. With PTI inputs.
