New Delhi: Vidya Balan starrer 'Kahaani', which bagged popular awards and was massively appreciated by critics and fans alike, will now be remade in English. Yes, after being remade down South, filmmaker Niels Arden Oplev, who has 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' to his credit, will work on the film's Hollywod remake.
Titled 'Deity', the film revolves around an American woman who visits Kolkata in search of her missing husband. As she gets closer to the truth, she finds herself at the centre of a dangerous conspiracy. The story unfolds in the context of a colourful, week-long festival.
And Oplev, who will leave no stone unturned to make the film both gripping and flawless, said, "Deity' will be a compelling and exciting thriller with complex and interesting characters. A neo-realistic style to story and images will take the audience deep into Calcutta's many different levels. A fascinating clash between American and Indian culture."
And filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh, who continues to win plaudits for the film's engaging theme, is evidently happy with the decision. "It's an incredible step by Yash Raj Films. Years back, Aditya Chopra had said he wanted to make 'Kahaani' for a global audience ... I thought he was kidding - but obviously not. YRF has left no stone unturned on making the English version," Ghosh had said in a statement.
"The new script by Jose Rivera and Richard Regen is perfectly suited for the Western audience and I am really looking forward to see Niels direct this version," he added.
"Niels is the perfect director to transfer the appeal of 'Kahaani' into 'Deity'," said Uday Chopra, CEO, YRF Entertainment.
