It is citizens right to have good roads: HC

KOCHI: The Kerala High Court has held that good roads are the right of people, and severely criticised the authorities for not maintaining roads in the state in good shape. The court has asked the government to complete the construction of roads in Kozhikode and Malappuram districts within four months.The court passed the order, while hearing a batch of petitions challenging the state government’s decision to cancel the sanction already given to panchyat committees for constructing roads in Kozhikode and Malappuram districts.The court further observed that the roads in the state should have a guarantee of at least two years. It said that monsoon alone could not be blamed for the bad condition of roads. The authorities should ensure that the roads in the state are in good shape, the court said.The court also pointed out the Kaloor-Kathrikadavu Road and Vypeen-Munambam Road as examples of good construction.
