Wondered on seeing tweets in your timeline from people you don't even follow? This is no technical glitch. In fact, this is a new feature which Twitter believes will make your timeline "even more relevant and interesting". In a new addition to its Support section, Twitter clarifies that why it will push tweets to your timeline from people you don't follow.
Here is the clarification from Twitter which is often observed experimenting with new features: "Additionally, when we identify a Tweet, an account to follow, or other content that's popular or relevant, we may add it to your timeline. This means you will sometimes see Tweets from accounts you don't follow. We select each Tweet using a variety of signals, including how popular it is and how people in your network are interacting with it. Our goal is to make your home timeline even more relevant and interesting."
It was only last week when users had started to observe tweets in their timelines from handles not followed by them. It was earlier believed to be an experimental feature, but Twitter's official explanation has now cleared the air.
Twitter seems to be on an experimental spree. In one of its latest experiments, Twitter has been caught turning users' Favourites into Retweets, leaving a large number of users annoyed. According to them, favouriting is inherently a private action.
Many users do not use the favourite in the same way as a Facebook "Like". Some use it as a simple acknowledgment of receiving a tweet or as a way of saying "thanks".
