No evidence against Tharoor; Sunanda murder case nearing dead end?
No motive has been established and CCTV footage corroborates what Shashi Tharoor says, Delhi Police sources said.

New Delhi: Investigators have so far not found any evidence against Congress MP Shashi Tharoor nor established any motive in the Sunanda Pushkar murder case, top sources in the Delhi Police said Monday.

The sources also told CNN-IBN that there was a question mark over the autopsy report that was given by AIIMS forensic head Sudhir Gupta that had pointed to a dozen injury marks on Sunanda's body and concluded that the death was due to homicidal poisoning.

Following were the main points, according to the sources in the investigating team, which seemed to suggest the murder case was moving towards a dead end.

# There is no evidence against Shashi Tharoor.

# The motive for the alleged murder has not been established.

# Investigators have not found any financial benefit to Tharoor from Sunanda Pushkar's death.

# CCTV footage studied by Delhi Police corroborate what Tharoor told police during questioning.

The sources also said they suspected Dr Gupta was "playing politics" with the forensic evidence and that was the reason the Delhi Police asked for a new panel to be set up to examine forensic evidence in the light of the FBI report.

The FBI lab report had suggested she may have died of an overdose of anti-anxiety drug alprax and that traces of local anesthetic lidocaine were also found in her viscera samples.

Strips of alprax were found near Pushkar's body by investigators following her death at a five star hotel in south Delhi on January 17, 2014.

Tharoor has been already been questioned four times in the murder case, and six witnesses -- including his domestic help Narayan Singh, driver Bajrangi and friend Sanjay Dewan-- subjected to lie detector tests.

Dr Gupta had initially alleged he was pressured to file a tailor-made post-mortem report, an allegation which was categorically denied by AIIMS. He later amended this to say there was pressure on him to fudge the report, but he didn't buckle.

In an interview to CNN-IBN on February 27, shortly before he retired, former Delhi Police Commissioner had complained of "inconclusive medical opinion" by AIIMS.

From what the sources revealed it was too early to say whether the Delhi Police would file a closure report and what happens to the murder FIR registered. What is clear is that for now Shashi Tharoor is off the Delhi Police radar.
