ANGUL: Amid the intriguing silence of the State party leadership to resolve the standoff, 10 Congress councillors on Monday submitted a notice to the district collector for moving a no-confidence motion against Congress chairperson of Angul municipality Binodini Dash. As per the rule, the collector has to convene the council meeting to take up no-confidence motion within 15 days of getting notice. The collector, however, asked the municipal executive officer to verify the signatures of the councillors before taking a decision on calling council meeting, official sources said. Meanwhile, 16 councillors, including some BJD members, have gone underground after the notice was submitted to the collector. It may be noted that some months back a similar notice was served but later withdrawn. The no-confidence motion notice is a fallout of intense bickering between the chairman and vice-chairman Pratap Pradhan for the past some months over various issues. While Pradhan protested her style of functioning by ignoring majority opinion, the chairperson refuted the charge saying that everything was as per rules and for the development of the people. The developments in Angul municipality is watched by all Opposition parties very keenly in undivided Dhenkanal district.
