Madurai/Chennai: A former IAS officer on Thursday filed a PIL in the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court seeking a direction to stay the CB-CID probe into the alleged suicide by DSP Vishupriya and connected murder case of a dalit youth and transfer them to CBI. In the petition, the former IAS officer P Sivakami said Vishnupriya who was investigating the Gokulraj murder case was found hanging at her residence on September 18.
It was imperative that the suicide of a higher official should be investigated without any prejudice and only a central investigating agency could do that, she contended. Meanwhile, a PIL was filed by a Madurai-based advocate in the Madras High Court seeking transfer of the suicide case to CBI.
The petitioner M Malaviya submitted that he appeared before the DSP CB-CID on receipt of summons and disclosed all facts. Apprehending that the officials were trying to close the case as suicide, the petitioner sought a direction from the court to transfer the investigation from CB-CID to CBI.
Vishnupriya, DSP of Tiruchengode in Namakkal District, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself on September 18. Her family and one of her batchmates had alleged she took the extreme step due to harassment by superiors in connection with the case related to the murder of a Dalit youth, which she was investigating, a charge denied by police. Several opposition parties, including DMK, have demanded a CBI investigation in the case.
