The recruitment for teaching posts across various government medical colleges and hospitals in Hyderabad has been in progress.

Around 50 associate professors, assistant professors and professors have been recruited for the new medical college at Nizamabad, which is likely to get the Medical Council of India’s (MCI) approval for the next academic year.

The process of recruiting the staff, who have been surrendered to the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) to other posts, will continue in the coming weeks.

“We are trying to fill the 580 teaching posts mandated by the MCI. The interviews were conducted for those having post-graduate degree for faculty positions in the colleges in the city as well as outside.

It has been a challenge to recruit faculty in the field of anatomy, physiology and pharmacology, especially for the colleges situated in rural areas as few people are willing to join over private practice,” said director of medical education Dr K. Vishnu Prasad.

Around 137 senior candidates were called for a walk-in interview on Sunday for the second round of counselling for senior staff who have been surrendered to the DME after serving their postings at the Department of Public Health (DPH) and AP Vaidya Vidhana Parishad (APVVP).
