BANGALORE: Can visually-challenged children learn Botany by the touch and feel method rather than limit their experience through another person’s description of plants? The answer is: Yes. A city based hospital has inaugurated a “Touch and Smell Garden” for the visually-challenged people here on Friday. This garden is reported to be first in the city and ninth in the world.Boasting of 50 varieties of plants, every plant in the garden is accompanied with a description board in Braille. “Visually-challenged people are governed by the sense of smell and touch. Therefore, the garden has been set up to activate the social behaviour of visually-challenged children,” said prof Amar Agarwal, chairman, Dr Agarwal’s Eye Hosptial at the inauguration.
