KOCHI: Casting doubts over CPM’s organisational elections, veteran leader V S Achuthanandan on Friday said that there was a secret move to defeat honest leaders in the elections at the ongoing party conferences.“Some persons are unleashing a false propaganda to defeat and oust honest leaders in the party conferences,” Achuthanandan told reporters after participating in a programme of the SNDP here. The party should have to identify these people and defeat them, he said and added that all these issues should have to be looked into.Stating that there was an opinion among party members that all those holding top positions for a long time should be removed, Achuthanandan said that the democratic method of election was always welcome at the party conferences. He, however, said that some members were being removed deliberately in the guise of elections. It was only earlier this week that Achuthanandan lashed out at the CPM leadership for its failure to cash in on the favourable political situation in the April Assembly elections. While inaugurating the delegates’ meet of the CPM district meet in Pathanamthitta on Monday, Achuthanandan had said that the neo-liberalist leadership of the organisation was responsible for the loss of power in the Assembly elections. He had also said that those without clean character and conduct should be shown the door. The trend of easily obtaining party membership should not be tolerated in the larger and long-term interests of the party, he said.
