At Facebook’s developer conference, Instagram announced its offline support for Android users worldwide. With this support, users will be able to browse through Instagram's preloaded feed and can even like or save posts even without Internet access.
As per Instagram’s software engineer, Hendri, 80% of the community is outside of the US. The new offline support will help users in low-bandwidth regions to stay connected and engage with content.
The new feature will allow users to leave comments, like things, save media, or unfollow people when offline, and all of it updates when the user is connected to the internet again. Users will also be able to visit previously visited profiles or explore their own profiles.
Instagram have a strong market of more than 200 million users outside the US and this new feature might come handy to grow rapidly.
Previously, Instagram’s parent company Facebook also launched Facebook Lite app for users low internet connection.
At the time when Snapchat is facing controversies in India, this step by Instagram might provide them a boost as it also introduced Instagram Stories feature, a few months back.
