Watch: Patient Watches Jr NTR's Film As Doctors Perform Brain Surgery
To ensure the patient remained alert and focused during the surgery, the doctors screened scenes from Jr NTR’s film Adhurs.

In a rare and remarkable case, doctors performed a complex brain surgery while keeping the patient awake throughout the procedure. Known as an awake craniotomy, this technique requires the patient to remain conscious during the operation. Viral videos show the patient watching a Jr. NTR film as doctors carry out the procedure. The surgery took place at Kakinada Government General Hospital in Andhra Pradesh, where 55-year-old A. Ananthalakshmi underwent the operation for a brain tumour.

The woman had been experiencing numbness in her limbs and persistent headaches. After a medical evaluation, doctors diagnosed her with a 3.3 x 2.7 cm tumour on the left side of her brain, according to an IANS report.

Owing to high prices at private hospitals, Ananthalakshmi chose the government hospital where the doctors made her tune into the scenes from NTR’s popular Telugu film, Adhurs. After operating on her for around two and a half hours, the doctors successfully removed the tumour and are anticipating to discharge her within five days. A video capturing the medical marvel is going viral on the internet, where the hospital staff can be seen assisting the patient in holding a tablet in front of her and watching the film while the doctor performs the surgery.

Many took to the comment section and shared their surprising reactions. Some even shared epic Brahmanandam memes, inspired by the Telugu film itself. A user wrote, “Doctors are amazing."

Others expressed their amazement through various emoticons.

Notably, this isn’t the first time such a procedure has been performed. In January, a similar case gained attention when a patient underwent brain tumour surgery while remaining conscious. The Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center shared a video on YouTube showing the patient playing the guitar during the craniotomy. Doctors explained that keeping the patient awake was crucial to “evaluate and protect his manual dexterity."

While the patient initially fell asleep before the surgery, he eventually woke up during a delicate part when the doctors gave him a guitar to play.
