If the word ‘Tadpole Water’ makes you cringe, fret not. Wait until you hear what it is. In the world of social media, there is surely no end to new trends and hacks. Gen Z has now come up with ‘Tadpole Water’ as a new method to help in weight loss.
Tadpole Water basically comprises a bottle of warm water mixed with a handful of chia seeds and a squeeze of fresh lemon. The name “tadpole water”, however, comes from its stark resemblance to baby frogs swimming in a pond.
The new “Tadpole Water” trend has swarmed the internet with numerous teens and twenty-somethings promising the benefits of this homemade concoction. According to them, this trend is helping them shred excess fat, ease bloating, and maintain gut health.
Content creator, Ambria Streicher claimed she lost a few pounds using the tadpole water trend. However, she said, “(To be honest) this stuff is NOT good.”
An 18-year-old TikTok user shared that this concoction helped her lose a “pound a day”. “I can confirm that it does work for weight loss,” Mariah Padilla. Ms Padilla described the texture and taste of the drink as “funky”, but did accept that “if it helps it helps”.
“It makes me gag… but it’s worth it,” she said in the clip.
Another cuisine enthusiast reminded “tadpole water” users of a cardinal rule: soak the seeds. “Health tip of the day, if you don’t put water in your chia seeds before you consume them, your chia seeds will expand in your stomach, causing blockage – meaning you’ll be constipated. And it’s just going to disrupt your digestive system,” she said.
While it is not advisable to implement online trends without considering their medical properties, chia seeds in water are a trustworthy combination. It can help with weight loss because they are high in fibre, which can help you feel full for longer and reduce your calorie intake. One ounce of chia seeds contains about 10 grams of fibre, which is about 20% of the recommended daily fibre intake. Fibre can also help with digestion and gut health.
According to Harvard Health, when chia seeds are ingested, they form a gel-like substance in the stomach that can increase your feeling of fullness and decrease your appetite and calorie intake.
