Citing British PM Tony Blair office memo marked, 'Top Secret', UK's Daily Mirror reveals Bush's intention to bomb al-Jazeera.

London: US President George W Bush planned to bomb pan-Arab television broadcaster al-Jazeera, British newspaper the Daily Mirror said on Tuesday, citing a memo of British Prime Minister Tony Blair office marked 'Top Secret'.

An undisclosed source told the Daily Mirror that the transcript of a conversation, between Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair, reveals Blair talked Bush out of bombing on the station.

The transcript reveals Bush wanted to attack the satellite channel's headquarters.

The Daily Mirror quoted an unnamed British government official saying Bush's threat was 'humorous, not serious'.

Al-Jazeera's perspectives on the war in Iraq have drawn criticism from Washington since the US-led March 2003 invasion.

According to the Daily Mirror source, "The memo is explosive and hugely damaging to Bush. He made clear that he wanted to bomb al-Jazeera in Qatar and elsewhere. Blair replied that would cause a big problem."

However, Blair's Downing Street official refused to comment about the leaked documents.
