Chennai experiences Raw Power

CHENNAI: The inaugural ‘Raw Power’ rock music concert was held in Chennai on Sunday to a chock-a-block audience at Plaza Center. Four bands took to stage and enthralled the spectators with some exciting original music. The first band was Break4Beer — a local band. Its a new band with young college talent, and their songs had a refreshing new sound of modern alternative rock. Adam and Evil, who were recently adjudged winners in the band competitions held at Guindy Engineering College and WCC took to stage next and played some of their recent compositions, Turn around it’s a robot and Knock Knock. They also performed covers of Limp Bizkit’s Take a look around and Killing in the name of’ by Rage Against The Machine.Ghost Note played from their own composition set-list which included their popular tracks Vagabond and Staring at the sun. They, however, evoked the best crowd response for Cruel Lover, which is a song about a man ill-treating his fiancé. White Lady were the headlining act of the night. One of the most talented and fast growing bands in India, they set the stage ablaze with their title track which talks about why a band with five men has been named White Lady! Their song Hey hey mama had a very catchy groove, while the high range vocals in The next big rockstar left the entire audience craving for more. Their set-list included high quality covers of Aerosmith, Guns N’ Roses and Iron Maiden. They also performed their debut single Cricket for peace, which in March 2011 was shortlisted for the official music album of the Cricket World Cup 2011. The show was truly a treat for all western music fans in the city. It was the first of the series. The series has been mainly designed to promote rock music talent from across India.
