PURI: Heavy police deployment continued at the strife-torn Gambhari village under the Brahmagiri constituency which witnessed post-poll violence.  Meanwhile, the 22 women, arrested the previous day, were released on Sunday after furnishing a personal bond each. The police had also staged a flag march. The supporters of BJD and Congress had hurled bombs at each other after results of the panchayat elections were declared. The BJD candidate had faced defeat in the election. While many sustained injuries, at least 15 houses were set afire. The fight was so intense that the police could enter the village only after two days. Anticipating police action all male members have fled. The injured were shifted to Balugaon and Berhampur for treatment through Chilika lake in boats. A old lady, Bidulata Dalei was brought to the district headquarters  hospital with severe injuries she sustained from a bomb attack.Police deployment in the village and nearby areas has been increased, said SP Anup Sahu adding that the situation is under control.The locals argued that had the Brahmagiri Police intervened in time this unfortunate situation could have been averted as they had prior knowledge of prevailing tension in the village. BJD Workers ClashBerhampur: Nuagaon police have arrested four persons for alleged attack on an advocate at Davar village under Chikiti block. They were produced in court on Sunday and remanded to judicial custody.  Reports said tension prevailed at Davar village following a clash among BJD workers, on Friday. Three persons were injured including the advocate who had to be shifted to MKCG Medical here in a critical state.The BJD activists in Lalmenta panchayat were divided over selection of candidates for the panchayat polls. On failing to sort out their differences, the two groups had fielded their candidates for the sarpanch post. When the rebel candidate, Lily Swain won the election, the other group got into a confrontational mood. Some supporters of the defeated candidate, Rajnandini Sahu allegedly assaulted the daughter of Sadananda Paramguru, an advocate and supporter of Lily. When Paramguru intervened, he was attacked with boulders. Later, Lily’s supporters barged into the house of Rajnandini and attacked her father-in-law and a supporter.
